Cabo Frio (Cold Cape in English) is a Brazilian port city in the Rio de Janeiro state. The city has population around 215,000. The city is locally known as "Cidade do Agito". It is located approx 150 km (93 ml) northeast of Rio de Janeiro.
- Cabo Frio was founded on November 13, 1615. It is served by Cabo Frio International Airport.
- The city is popular for its beautiful white sand beaches and extravagant entertainment. Cabo Frio beaches are great for surfing, diving and swimming, but watch out for mosquitos.
- The ruins of Forte Sao Mateus, which dates back from 1616, are at the mouth of Canal de Itajuru. The canal connects Lagoa Araruama with the Atlantic Ocean. Strong Beach ("Praia do Forte") is nearby and is the city's most popular beach.
- Angry Beach ("Praia Brava") is the most popular surfing location (for skilled surfers) with its huge crashing waves.
