Evry-Courcouronnes is a Seine River cruise port and a town near Paris (the capital city's southern suburbs) in the le-de-France region (Essonne department), with population around 70,000. The town was established in 2019 via the merger of Evry and Courcouronnes.

As cruise port, Evry-Courcouronnes is included in the regular schedule of CroisiEurope's luxury hotel barges Deborah and Raymonde.

The next table shows CroisiEurope's 5-night/6-day itinerary (roundtrip from Paris) titled "From Paris to the Petite Seine: An Enchanting Cruise through Picturesque Landscapes and Man-made Wonders".

Tourists can enjoy Parc-du-Lac Courcouronnes - a large nature park with a small lake, a scenic walking trail, and the climbing wall Dame du Lac (1975-constructed by Pierre Szekely, currently non-operational). The town is famous for the Genopole academy (comprising of 17 research laboratories and housing 87 biotechnology companies) specializing in genetics and genomics, xenobiology (novel biological systems and biochemistries), as well as in biotherapies.

Higher education is represented by the Faculte des Metiers (faculty of trades), Institut Mines-Telecom Business School, ENSIIE (National School of Higher Computing for Industry and Enterprise), Telecom SudParis/TSP (leading engineering school in digital science and technology) and Evry-Val-d'Essonne University.

Evry-Courcouronnes is crossed by several major transportation axes, including A6 Highway (autoroute du Soleil, linking Paris and Lyon) and National Road 7 (RN 7, linking Paris to Menton). The local vehicle traffic is served by Department Road 446 (Essonne route) and several road exchangers (Francilienne N104 motorways).

Evry-Courcouronnes has three train stations serving two railway lines - Gare Evry-Val-de-Seine and Gare Grand Bourg (serving the Villeneuve-Saint-Georges to Montargis line) and Gare Orangis-Bois de l'Epine (serving the Grigny to Corbeil-Essonnes line).

In 2020 was launched a major development project for downtown's renovation. The 20-year project includes demolition works as well as several infrastructure redevelopments, including the commissioning of T12 Express (tramway linking to Gare Massy-Palaiseau) and all-electric bus lines.

Independent sightseeing: possible with some planning or transport. Évry-Courcouronnes is a Seine River stop south of Paris. Its cathedral and riverside village offer a quieter alternative to the capital, while Paris is an option on a longer call.

Getting from the River Port

River cruise barges berth along the Seine. The exact landing point and access to shore depend on the sailing, so check the location and all-aboard time with the crew before making plans. Do not assume that the commercial Port d’Évry is your passenger landing.

Évry-Val de Seine and Évry-Courcouronnes are separate RER D stations in different parts of town. The former is in the riverside district; the latter is near the cathedral and town centre. Depending on your berth, you may need a taxi or local transport to reach a station or attraction. Arrange your return transport in advance where possible.

Best Ways to Spend Your Time

Évry Cathedral and the Town Centre

Allow about 1–2 hours in the centre, plus transport from the ship. The Cathedral of the Resurrection is a contemporary circular brick building with trees around its roof. Visit the interior when open, then explore the nearby Place des Droits de l’Homme et du Citoyen and the town centre.

Independent visitors can explore the cathedral outside services. Check opening arrangements in advance and allow extra time for the journey back to the river.

Évry-Village and the Seine

For a short local outing, explore the older Évry-Village neighbourhood and its streets near the river. This is most practical if the ship is berthed nearby or you can arrange transport to the village. Allow around 1–2 hours, depending on how far you walk and where the ship is moored.

The riverside district and the newer town centre are separated by roads, the railway and rising ground. Check the route locally rather than assuming there is a direct riverside walk to the cathedral.

Khánh-Anh Pagoda

The Vietnamese Buddhist pagoda is an alternative for visitors interested in religious architecture. Allow around 1–2 hours for the visit, plus transport. Independent access is limited, so check current visiting arrangements before setting out; dress respectfully and follow any instructions at the entrance.

The pagoda and cathedral are in different parts of town. A taxi or a planned public transport connection is useful if combining them during a short call.

Paris

Paris is a separate destination from Évry-Courcouronnes and is best considered when you have a long day ashore. RER D trains connect the Évry area with Paris Gare de Lyon. Depending on the station and service, allow roughly 30–50 minutes on the train each way, plus time to reach the station, wait for trains and travel within Paris. Some journeys require a change.

Choose one area or attraction rather than attempting to cover the whole city. Check the return timetable and engineering works, and confirm that the barge will still be at the same berth. An organized excursion is worth considering when the available time is tight.

Self-Guided Walk in the Town Centre

Cathedral and Centre

Easy: Allow around 45–90 minutes including a cathedral visit. Start at Évry-Courcouronnes station or arrange a drop-off near the cathedral. This is a short urban walk; allow extra time for crossings and any construction diversions.

  1. Leave Évry-Courcouronnes station on the town hall side.
  2. Walk to the Cathedral of the Resurrection and look at its brick exterior and tree-lined roof.
  3. Visit the cathedral interior if open and no service is taking place.
  4. Continue to Place des Droits de l’Homme et du Citoyen beside the town hall.
  5. Return to the station or your arranged pickup point for the journey back to the ship.

Practical Tips

  • Confirm both the berth and the time you must be back on board. River itineraries can include a change of mooring or a departure while passengers are on an organized excursion.
  • Check attraction opening times and rail services on the day of your visit. Religious sites may be unavailable during services or events.
  • Leave a generous margin for the return journey, especially when travelling to Paris or relying on a prebooked taxi.
