Grundsund is a port village in Sweden's Vastra Gotaland County, with population under 800. The closest to Grundsund large towns are Lysekil/Lysport (approx 25 km / 16 mi) and Uddevalla (approx 40 km / 25 mi). The settlement was founded in the 17th century (as a fishing village) and occupies two small islands (Skafto and Oso) separated by the Grundsund Canal/harbor canal.
Today, Grundsund Port (locode SEGRD) serves mainly leisure boats and yachts, mooring at Grundsund Marina.
As cruise port, Grundsund is visited by smaller-sized ships (including by Hurtigruten) and superyachts. The itinerary usually also includes Karingon Island (to the south) and Smogen (to the northwest). Via the ship's tender boats or Zodiacs (large motorized boats) passengers are transported to Grundsund to enjoy the scenery (marked by a rugged coastline and the dividing Grundsund Canal), traditional architecture (houses, cottages), walking the wooden esplanade (waterfront promenade), sports activities like seakayaking and small boating.
