Ischia Island is in the Tyrrhenian Sea (central Mediterranean Sea) and in Italy's Campania region. It is in the Gulf of Naples' northern part, approx 30 km (19 mi) to the southwest of Naples/Napoli.
Ischia is the largest of the Phlegrean Islands, with a total area of approx 46 km2 (18 mi2) and a coastline approx 34 km (21 mi) in length. The island's population is around 60,000.
The town of Ischia is the island's largest settlement and principal port (locode ITISH), with population around 18,000.
Regularly scheduled ferries connect Naples with Ischia Island (crossing times 1-1,5 hours). The ferry companies serving the routes include:
- Caremar (conventional ferries for passengers and vehicles, and hydrofoils) - departs from Napoli Porta di Massa (car ferries) and Molo Beverello (hydrofoils).
- Medmar (conventional ferries only) - transports cars, motorcycles, and foot passengers, departs from Napoli Porta di Massa.
- Alilauro (high-speed hydrofoils) - serves foot passengers only, departs from Molo Beverello, fastest crossings are 50–60 minutes.
- SNAV (high-speed passenger hydrofoils) - departs from Molo Beverello, some crossings stop at Procida before Ischia.
