Ittoqqortoormiut (aka Illoqqortoormiut, fka Scoresbysund) is the only permanent settlement in Scoresby Sound (large fjord system) on Greenland's eastern coast. The small town has population around 500.

Visitors wander around and enjoy sledge dogs tethered outside brightly painted wooden homes. Another unusual view are the hung out to dry skins of seals, polar bears and muskox.

Ittoqqortoormiit is one of Greenland's youngest towns and also among the country's most isolated settlements. Scoresby Sund with its coastal fjords is the world's largest fjord system. The fjord itself is the world's longest - extending approx 350 km (215 mi) inland from the coastline. Its main basin depth is 400–600 m (1300-1970 ft) but in some fjords depths reach 1450 m (4760 ft).

Most of the inhabitants live in Ittoqqortoormiit. The other two settlements in the manucipality are named Uunartoq and Itterajivit. Hunting and fishing are the main trades of the region.

Ittoqqortoormiit was first settled in 1925. Already at that time, the region was known as a very good hunting ground for polar bears, seals and walruses. Only few visitors make it to this remote area which offers beautiful expedition-style tours on dog sleds or in sea kayaks. The port is the departure point for expeditions into the National Park in North Eastern Greenland.
