Mooloolaba is a port town and popular resort destination on Queensland's Sunshine Coast Region (eastern Australia). It is also part of region's Maroochydore (suburb) and is located approx 97 km (60 ml) north of Queensland's capital city Brisbane. Mooloolaba has population around 8,000 and covers total area approx 4 km2 (1,5 ml2).
The esplanade (waterfront promenade street) that faces the beach is among town's best-known landmarks. The esplanade houses the marine park UnderWater World, boutique and souvenir shops, bookshops, bars, cafes, restaurants, art galleries. Behind the apartments facing the beach are located backpacker hostels, canal villas and camping grounds.
Mooloolaba is a very popular tourism travel destination in QLD. The town is connected by trains and buses via Landsborough, Nambour and Woombye, by coach from Brisbane, and by air via Sunshine Coast Airport (fka Maroochydore Airport). This is a domestic airport located approx 90 km (56 ml) north of downtown Brisbane. It serves regularly scheduled flights to Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney NSW (direct daily flights). Seasonal flights to Auckland NZ (Air New Zealand, 3 weekly return flights) leave from Maroochydore. Domestic flights are provided by 3 airlines (Jetstar Airways, QantasLink, Virgin Australia). Besides Mooloolaba, the airport is also the gateway to Maroochydore, Noosa and Caloundra.
