Nessebar is a Balck Sea cruise port, an ancient town and one of Bulgaria's most popular seaside resorts. The town is part of Burgas province, covers total area of approx 32 km2 (12 ml2) and has population around 14,000.

Nesebar has a museum housing over 3000-year old artifacts. The town is among the most prominent Bulgarian seaports and tourist travel destinations on Black Sea. Sunny Beach (country's largest hotel resort complex) is to the north.

On several occasions, the town has found itself on the frontier of threatened empire. As such it's a town with rich history. Nessebar's ancient part lies on a peninsula linked with mainland via a narrow man-made isthmus,. It bears evidence of occupation by various civilisations over its existence course. The abundance of historic buildings made UNESCO include Nessebar in its list of World Heritage Sites 1983.

In Greek times, the port was known as Mesembria or Melsembria (city of Melsas) and Mesambria (Thracian Melsambria). Currently, a total of 40 churches are located in in the town or its vicinity.
