Oulu is a Baltic port and city in Finland's North Ostrobothnia region. By population (around 210,000) it is ranked Finland's 5th-largest (following Helsinki, Espoo, Tampere, Vantaa). The city is one of the country's most popular seaside resort travel destinations.

Port Oulu (locode FIOPP) is on Bothnia Gulf (at the Oulujoki River's mouth) and has 3 active harbors (Vihreasaari, Nuottasaari, Oritkari). By annual shipping traffic/volumes (~500 ships / avg ~3 million cargo tons), it is one of the largest harbors on Bothnia Bay/Perameri. Ports Nuottasaari and Oritkari both have direct railway links.

  • Port Vihreasaari (1963-opened, max draft 10 m / 33 ft) is the biggest and serves oil tankers and bulk carriers.
  • Port Nuottasaari (1953-opened, max draft 6,5 m / 22 ft) has 3 piers - 1 main and 2 chemical.
  • Port Oritkari (1970-opened) has 3 docks and serves mainly container ships.
  • Port Toppila (at Toppilansalmi Strait) used to serve bulk carriers but was closed in 2012. Occasionally, here dock cruise ships.

As cruise port, Oulu is visited by smaller-sized ships and superyachts. Next table shows a 15-day itinerary (roundtrip from Germany) included in the 2022 schedule of the luxury travel brand Hapag-Lloyd Cruises (ship Hanseatic Spirit).
