Port of Rio Grande (locode BRRIG) serves the city of Rio Grande, the capital of Brazil's Rio Grande do Sul state. It has total area around 2,710 km2 (1,046 mi2) and population around 200,000.

Rio Grande is one of Brazil's main seaports (the 3rd largest by annual throughput) and is also ranked one of Latin America's largest. It is Rio Grande do Sul's principal seaport.

The Port is accessed via three federal highways (BR-116, BR-471, and BR-392, of which BR-392 connects it directly. The harbor is protected by two breakwaters.

The Port is on the North Channel's right bank, connecting Lagoa dos Patos (a coastal lagoon) with the Atlantic Ocean. The lagoon is Brazil's largest (total area around 10,000 km2 / 3900 mi2). It has length of 280 km (174 mi), max width of 70 km (44 mi) and is navigable by the largest ships. At the lagoon's northern end is Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul's capital and largest city.

Originally named Porto Velho do Rio Grande, its construction started in 1869 and was completed in 1872. Porto Novo was constructed in 5 years (between 1910 and 1915). The current port was officially opened in 1935.

Through the Rio Grande Port are exported agricultural products (soybeans, soybean meal and oil, corn, rice), also wood chips, cellulose, cerrado wood, and benzene. The main import goods include salt, wheat, barley, fertilizers, chemicals (urea, phosphates, potassium chloride, ammonium sulphate and nitrate, sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid and ammonia), petroleum coke, crude oil, and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).
