Vilagarcia de Arousa is a port town in Pontevedra province (Galicia, Spain), with total area approx 47 km2 (18 ml2) and population around 38,000. The town is located in the region O Salnes - the southernmost part of ria de Arousa (large sea inlet). Vilagarcia borders To the north with Catoira, to the south with Vilanova and to the east with Caldas de Reis. Santiago de Compostela (served by Port La Coruna) is located approx 45 km (28 ml) to the north.
Patron Saint festival is an annual 10-day festival organized around August 16 (St Roch's day). On that day are held two consecutive celebrations. The first one is religious and starts with a mass and procession of saint's image from Iglesia de Santa Eulalia (church) to St Roch's Chapel. The second celebration (Festa da Auga / water festival) attracts thousands going through the streets and shouting "¡agua!" (water) while the neighbors respond by throwing water out of their windows. During that carnival week, other group activities also take place - parades, bands' concerts, Galician traditional music and folk dancing. Combate Naval is the fireworks show with which the festival officially ends.
