CCL's Carnival Magic cruise ship delayed due to ‘soot’ accident

A CCL-Carnival Cruise Line vessel, carrying numerous passengers, encountered an unforeseen setback in its preparations for departure on Wednesday evening, November 1st.

Carnival Magic was about to initiate a voyage from Grand Turk Cruise Center when experienced an inadvertent spill (believed to be soot) into the surrounding waters. The incident resulted in a delayed departure and underscores the vital role of environmental responsibility within the cruise shipping industry.

The discharge transpired due to a momentary power disruption in the ship's cooling system, generating a conspicuous dark mass that dispersed across the sea. Passengers shared images of the spill on various social media platforms, highlighting its visual impact.

Although power was swiftly restored, and the situation normalized, the presence of a substantial oil slick at the ship's rear raised concerns among both passengers and crew members.

Carnival Magic eventually left Grand Turk but departed over two hours behind the originally scheduled time. Fortunately, this delay is unlikely to have a significant impact on the subsequent itinerary, as its next destination (Amber Cove Dominicana) is 100+ miles away.

Carnival Magic's current itinerary is a 6-day Eastern Caribbean roundtrip from Miami. It started on 29 Oct, 2023 and ends on 04 Nov, 2023.
