RSSC-Regent's ship Seven Seas Grandeur boasts multi-million-dollar art collection

RSSC-Regent Seven Seas Cruises, a leading luxury cruise company, has unveiled its impressive multi-million-dollar art collection destined for its upcoming vessel, Seven Seas Grandeur.

This collection, comprising ~1600 modern artworks, was meticulously curated over a period of nearly two years, drawing from artists and galleries around the world. These captivating artworks will be unveiled with the launch of the new ship in November 2023.

In a pioneering move, Regent will introduce a digital art tour known as Art Experience, accessible through the Regent Mobile App, available on Seven Seas Grandeur. This innovative digital tour will provide guests with an immersive and interactive experience, enabling them to engage not only with the art but also with the artists behind the creations.

The digital tour will showcase works by notable artists like Rauschenberg, Matta, Sophie Elizabeth Thompson, and Eduardo Arranz-Bravo in central guest areas. Passengers in the lap of luxury can scan selected artworks using the app, connecting them with the artist, their creative process, and the inspiration behind their work, thanks to cutting-edge technology.

The Regent Mobile App, in addition to the digital art tour, offers guests the convenience of accessing the daily program guide Passages, perusing the shore excursion catalog, reviewing restaurant menus, and contacting fellow passengers through the ship's directory while on board.

Since the exterior design of the first piece of art, a commissioned Faberge Egg named 'Journey in Jewels,' was unveiled last year, the much-anticipated art series has garnered considerable attention. The internal design and mechanics of this one-of-a-kind artwork, the first and only Faberge Egg to permanently reside at sea, remain a closely guarded secret and will be unveiled during Seven Seas Grandeur's christening in Miami this December.

Sarah Faberge, Founding Member of The Faberge Heritage Council and great-granddaughter of Peter Carl Faberge, has been named the Godmother of Seven Seas Grandeur. To celebrate this honor, she will host art enthusiasts on board the ship during a unique Spotlight Voyage in July, offering behind-the-scenes access to Faberge through masterclasses and shore excursions.

The commissioned Faberge Egg will be joined by other significant works in the Seven Seas Grandeur art collection, including an awe-inspiring, nearly 40-foot-tall hand-woven tapestry, "The Enchanted Tree," crafted by renowned Brazilian artist Walter Goldfarb. This impressive tapestry will adorn the ship's luxurious atrium, providing multiple perspectives of its intricately woven textiles.

Another unique piece in the collection is a custom-made bronze and hand-cast glass Bonsai Cherry Tree Sculpture by Savoy Studios. This captivating installation serves as an immersive entrance to Pacific Rim, the vessel's pan-Asian specialty restaurant. It offers a striking contrast to the Pacific Rim's entrance pieces aboard the sisterships Explorer and Splendour, which include a Tibetan Prayer Wheel and a Mythical Dragon.

The motif of trees recurs in the design of Seven Seas Grandeur, most notably in the largest specialty restaurant at sea, Compass Rose. Upon entering the restaurant, diners will be seated beneath a canopy of interwoven crystal and wood-edged lit trees, creating the ambiance of dining in an enchanted forest, with thousands of meticulously placed crystal-faceted leaves enveloping the restaurant in a breathtaking display.

Sarah Hall Smith, Regent's Art Director, dedicated over two years to curating the exceptional art collection on Seven Seas Grandeur, collaborating on curating collections on sister ships Seven Seas Splendour and Seven Seas Explorer.

The curated art collection on Seven Seas Grandeur (floor plans) boasts a wide array of artworks from artists worldwide, encompassing sculptures, original paintings, photographs, and more.

Notable highlights of the collection include works by renowned artists.

Pablo Picasso (Lithograph and Linocut): "Toros y Toreros," "Antes de picar al toro," and "Picador picando al toro, con matador al quite" are displayed in Prime 7 on Deck 10.

Faberge: "Journey in Jewels" is in the Atrium on Deck 5. This Faberge creation symbolizes the Regent sailing experience.

Savoy Studios: "Bonsai Cherry Tree" was exclusively created for Seven Seas Grandeur. The custom-made bronze and hand-cast glass Bonsai Cherry Tree sculpture stands as an immersive gateway to Pacific Rim, the ship's pan-Asian specialty restaurant on Deck 5.

Walter Goldfarb: "The Enchanted Tree" is a nearly 40-foot-tall tapestry that will hang beside the elevator wall in the Atrium on Deck 6.

Zheng Lu: "Water in Dripping – Waterfall" will be displayed at Serene Spa & Wellness (Deck 5).
