On Friday morning, January 19, at the Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone (Italy), a serious accident occurred during the construction of the cruise ship Mein Schiff Relax. A scaffolding attached to the ship collapsed ~8:30 a.m., trapping a 25-year-old worker underneath. The Italian fire brigade, assisted by a mobile crane, successfully rescued the worker, who was then transported to the hospital with injuries.

The victim, identified as a 25-year-old worker, was caught under the collapsed scaffolding. The Italian fire brigade's swift response, utilizing a mobile crane, ensured his extraction and immediate medical attention. The injured worker received necessary treatment at a hospital for the sustained injuries.

Authorities are actively investigating the incident to determine the cause of the scaffolding collapse. Preliminary reports suggest that the collapse may have involved multiple workers, with one individual sustaining severe injuries while being trapped amidst the debris.

The accident occurred on the gangway, which apparently detached from the TUI's ship, possibly due to strong winds that swept through the Gulf of Trieste the previous night.

First responders, including the Trieste fire brigade, a team of divers, ASU GI (University Health Company Giuliano Isontina), medical personnel from Sores Fvg 118, and the State Police, quickly arrived at the incident site. Using a mobile crane, the fire brigade successfully freed the trapped worker, who had suffered thoracic trauma. The injured individual was transported under code red to Cattinara Hospital in Trieste, where he is currently admitted in critical condition.

In response to the incident, colleagues of the injured worker, believed to be an employee of a subcontracting company, initiated a strike. Organized by the Fim-Cisl, Fiom Cgil, and Uilm M unions, the strike is in solidarity with the injured worker and continued throughout the day. Several workers abstained from work and left the shipyard, expressing concerns over workplace safety and demanding appropriate measures to prevent future accidents.
