NCL-Norwegian Cruise Line marked a significant milestone on October 31st, 2025, as the Norwegian Gem commenced its inaugural voyage from Jacksonville, Florida. The event, held in collaboration with the City of Jacksonville and the Jacksonville Port Authority (JAXPORT), celebrated the beginning of a multi-year partnership that will see NCL offer seasonal cruise service from the port through April 2028.
Under the agreement, Norwegian Gem will sail between November and April on itineraries to the Bahamas and the Caribbean. Company executives described the arrangement as a reflection of NCL's dedication to providing premium vacation experiences from easily accessible departure points. The new service would allow travelers to enjoy both short escapes to destinations such as Great Stirrup Cay—the company's private island currently undergoing major enhancements—and longer journeys throughout the Caribbean.
City officials emphasized that the arrival of NCL represents continued growth in Jacksonville’s tourism and maritime economy. They commended the partnership as a key development in strengthening the city’s reputation as a leading southeastern port and travel destination.
During the 2025–2026 season, Norwegian Gem will homeport in Jacksonville, offering voyages to the Caribbean and the Bahamas. The ship accommodates 2,344 guests and features the Mandara Spa & Salon, complete with thermal suites, saunas, and steam rooms. Evening entertainment includes the country-themed production Blazing Boots and Ignite the Night, an in-house dance show developed at NCL's creative studios in Tampa. Guests aboard can select from twelve restaurants serving international cuisine and enjoy fourteen bars and lounges.
JAXPORT representatives noted that Jacksonville’s geographic position makes it an appealing choice for travelers across the southeastern United States. The cruise terminal, located near major interstates and the international airport, provides convenient access and on-site parking.
Tourism officials observed that NCL's arrival will introduce new visitors to Jacksonville, complementing the city’s strong annual tourism numbers. They expressed optimism that the collaboration will generate both economic and cultural benefits for the region.
NCL's itineraries from Jacksonville include short voyages to the Bahamas with stops at Great Stirrup Cay, Grand Bahama Island, and Key West, along with 11- and 12-day Caribbean sailings visiting Puerto Rico, Dominicana, Antigua, and the USVI/Virgin Islands. Onshore experiences range from beaches and snorkeling to adventure excursions such as ziplining.
The cruise line’s all-inclusive offerings continue to be a hallmark of the brand, including premium open-bar service, specialty dining credits, high-speed Wi-Fi, and shore excursion allowances. Additional promotions feature free airfare for second guests and complimentary fares for children on select voyages.
Fares for the 4-day Bahamas sailings from Jacksonville start at US$279 per person, while longer Caribbean voyages begin at US$749 per person. Norwegian is also offering limited-time discounts of up to US$1,000 across its fleet, positioning Jacksonville as an emerging gateway for travelers seeking tropical itineraries aboard one of the industry’s most recognized cruise lines.
