VIDEO: Prinzessin Isabella Collides with Cargo Ship

In the early morning of Saturday, October 5, a ship accident occurred on Danube River between Izmail (Ukraine) and Tulcea (Romania). A cargo vessel collided with a Phoenix Reisen-chartered riverboat and severely damaged it.

The collision occurred at ~5 am. The Panama-flagged cargo ship was heading upriver in the direction of Galati when collided with MS Prinzessin Isabella navigating downstream towards Tulcea. The starboard side of the cruise ship was badly damaged. Two of the 165 passengers on board were injured in the accident.

MS Prinzessin Isabella is now in Tulcea, while the cargo vessel was anchored in front of the scene of the accident. The cargo ship was not identified by local sources but according to the tracker, it is the general cargo ship Blue Star I.

How it came to the collision, is currently not clear. The accident occurred during the 14-day Danube Cruise (itinerary Sept 28 - Oct 12) roundtrip from homeport Passau.
