A passenger has been critically injured in a nearly 5-meter (16-foot) fall on a Carnival cruise ship off Louisiana's coast.
News outlets report the United States Coast Guard said a 23-year-old man had been hurt early Tuesday, October 8, on the cruise ship close to Venice. A Coast Guard news release said he had been airlifted to a hospital in New Orleans in critical condition.
The man had fallen on Carnival Valor, a New Orleans-based cruise ship that carries around 3,000 passengers.
It is unclear what caused the passenger to fall. Authorities did not immediately release his identity. At the time of the accident, the ship was en-route to Mexico on a 5-day Western Caribbean voyage roundtrip from homeport NOLA.
