Sea Cloud Spirit is getting an aristocratic godmother. The sister of Spain’s King Felipe VI, Infanta Elena of Spain, will christen the new 3-masted full-rigged cruise ship on September 3, 2021, in the Port of Palma de Mallorca (Majorca Island, Balearic Spain).

The 2020-built/2021-inaugurated Sea Cloud Spirit cruise ship is Sea Cloud Cruisesnewbuild full-rigged, 3-masted barque. This is currently the world's largest sailship - with LOA length 138 m (450 ft), GT 4230 tons and DWT 935 tons. The fleetmates are Sea Cloud 1 (1931-built private yacht, cruise service since 1979) and Sea Cloud 2 (2001-built 3-masted barque cruise ship).

Sea Cloud Cruises' third 5-star windjammer was built at Metalships & Docks shipyard in Vigo Spain

The champagne, which the godmother will officially christen the new ship with, has been blessed following a pilgrimage of ~120 km in Santiago de Compostela. The legal representative of Sea Cloud Cruises, Spanish shipping lawyer Javier Arias-Camison, kept his promise made at the beginning of the vessel’s construction. After the successful completion of the extraordinary tall ship, he brought the champagne for the naming on foot to Santiago de Compostela and had the two bottles blessed there.

Arias-Camison carried twice the luggage of a normal pilgrim during the 5-day pilgrimage. On his tour, he didn't let himself be stopped, even by blisters on his feet. At each stop along the way, the two bottles received the obligatory stamp for devout walkers, on the special label of the champagne bottles. One of the two bottles is to be traditionally shattered on the hull of Sea Cloud Spirit during her christening. The other will be auctioned off for charity on the maiden cruise from September 14 -24, 2021.
