Arcachon is an Atlantic Ocean cruise port, Gironde River cruise port and city in southwestern France, most popular as bathing and yachting destination. The city is located approx  55 km (34 mi) southwest from Bordeaux and has a population of around 12,000.

Arcachon was granted city status in 1857 by Emperor Louis-Napoléon Bonaparte (1808-1873). In Arcachon Bay is located Europe's largest sand dune (Dune du Pilat), with length 3 km (2 mi), width 500 m (1600 ft) and highest elevation point 110 m (360 ft). The Dune moves inland by 5 m (16 ft) per year. Arcachon is served by SNCF TGV Atlantique (high-speed trains) and Bordeaux Merignac Airport.

Port Arcachon Marina is a deep-water port in the Arcachon basin

Arcachon cruise terminal

Cruise ships in Arcachon anchor in open sea (near the harbour) and transport their passengers to Arcachon Marina (cruise port) via the ship's tender boats. Riverboats dock directly at the marina.

Since 2007, the Marina has a dedicated quay reserved for the traditional pinasses boats (long, narrow and flat-bottomed boats), as well as for hotel barges, sailing ships and river cruise ships.
