Bangor (Beannchar) is a port town and seaside resort in Northern Ireland (UK) located on the southern shore of Belfast Lough (sea lake) on Ireland Island's northeast coast. The road distance Bangor and Belfast City (Northern Ireland’s capital) is approx 14 mi (23 km) or around 30-min drive via roads A2, B170 and Belfast Rd. The picturesque town has a population of around 60,000 and its harbour houses a premium boat marina.

Bangor Marina (port locode GBBNG, 1989-opened) is Northern Ireland's largest yacht marina and is very popular for providing berthing right in downtown. Bangor Marina also serves the 1866-founded RUYC (Royal Ulster Yacht Club), Ballyholme Yacht Club (dinghy and keelboat racing vessels). The Marina is also homeport for vessels of Marine Rescue Sub Centre (HMCG / UK's Coastguard Agency) and RNLI (Royal National Lifeboat Institution).

Town's economy is heavily based on resort tourism (mainly in the summer). There are plans for major seafront redevelopments at Clandeboye Estate (located very close to downtown). The town is served by Ulsterbus (public transport company) which also provides daily connections to Belfast, Newtownards, Holywood, and Donaghadee. Northern Ireland Railways (NIR, a subsidiary of Translink) provides regular train connections to Great Victoria Street (a railway station in downtown Belfast).

Cruise ship tourists can book as shore excursions from Bangor the tours to Mount Stewart House (Marquis of Londonderry family's mansion with gardens) and the Giant's Causeway (northeast of Bushmills) which is worldwide known for its 40,000+ interlocking columns of basalt rock.
