Kamali Beach is an urban waterfront gathering area rather than a swimming beach. It is suitable for a relaxed stroll, refreshments and views across the water. Allow 1.5–3 hours depending on how far you walk.

Practicality: The easiest independent option, although a short ride can reduce walking beside busy roads.

Nirwana Beach

Nirwana Beach, south of the city, offers pale sand, coastal views and the possibility of swimming when conditions are suitable. The drive commonly takes about 20–30 minutes each way, depending on traffic and the starting point.

Allow 3–4 hours for a comfortable beach visit. Facilities are relatively simple, and sea conditions, cleanliness and equipment availability may vary. Bring sun protection, water and suitable footwear, and confirm a return pickup rather than relying on finding transport at the beach.

Butonese Culture and Island Villages

This route suits passengers who prefer to remain near central Baubau rather than travel to the fortress or beach.

1. Murhum Port exit: Begin after leaving the controlled harbor area and confirm the correct pedestrian route with port staff.
2. Harbor surroundings: Observe the ferries, fishing craft and everyday activity around this working port without entering restricted areas.
3. Wameo Market: Browse produce, spices, fish and household stalls. Keep valuables secure in crowded sections and ask before photographing people.
4. Central commercial streets: Continue through the local shopping area, stopping for a drink or simple Indonesian food.
5. Kamali waterfront: Finish beside the sea near the city’s dragon landmark and waterfront gathering spaces.

The route can cover approximately 3 km (1.9 mi), depending on the passenger exit and chosen streets. Allow about 45–60 minutes of pure walking or 2–3 hours with market and refreshment stops. The walk is generally easy but can feel demanding because of heat, humidity, traffic and limited shade.

For the return, retrace the route or take a short taxi or motorcycle taxi to Murhum Port. Show the driver the port name and your ship’s details to avoid confusion.

• Carry Indonesian rupiah in small denominations; cards may not be accepted by market vendors or local drivers.
• Dress modestly in the city and fortress quarter, particularly near the palace mosque. Shoulders and knees should be covered when entering religious areas.
