Launceston and Cataract Gorge

Recommended time: 4–6 hours including transfers.

Launceston offers heritage streets, cafés, City Park and the riverside Cataract Gorge. A practical visit combines a drop-off in the city center with a walk through the historic core and a taxi or walk to the gorge. Because the return journey can be affected by traffic, a ship shuttle or organized excursion is preferable to an independently timed public bus.

Beaconsfield Mine and Heritage Centre

Recommended time: 2.5–4 hours including transport.

Nearby Beaconsfield provides an accessible introduction to the region's mining and industrial history. It is suitable for a taxi, prearranged driver or excursion, and can be combined with the Beauty Point wildlife attractions. Confirm transport in advance rather than expecting taxis to be waiting at the wharf.

Tamar Valley Scenic and Wine Tour

Recommended time: 4–6 hours.

The valley contains widely dispersed vineyards, farm producers and river viewpoints. There is no practical hop-on public transport linking them, so use an organized excursion or a prebooked vehicle with a driver. Opening days and tasting arrangements vary, and advance reservations are advisable.

George Town and Low Head

Recommended time: 4–5 hours.

Across the lower Tamar region, George Town and Low Head offer maritime heritage, the historic pilot station and coastal views near Low Head Lighthouse. Although they appear close across the water, there is no simple direct passenger crossing from Beauty Point; the road journey goes around the river. This option is best undertaken by organized tour or prearranged vehicle.

Self-Guided Beauty Point Walk

Route: Inspection Head Wharf, Seahorse World, Platypus House, Beauty Point waterfront and marina area, then return to the wharf.

Distance: Approximately 2 km (1.2 mi) round trip, depending on the passenger exit and turnaround point.

Walking time: About 30 minutes without stops; allow 2–3 hours when visiting both wildlife centers.

Difficulty: Easy, with generally level waterfront walking. Weather can be cool, windy or changeable even during summer.

This is the most dependable independent plan when passengers land at Inspection Head. Keep track of tour-session times and return directly to the tender or ship after the final visit. The route does not apply when passengers are handled through the restricted Bell Bay industrial port.
