Carriacou Island is part of Grenada and the largest of the dependency Grenadine Islands, located in the southeastern Caribbean Sea. The island is located northeast of Grenada and South America's north coast. The isle covers a total area of approx 34 km2 (13 mi2) and has a population of around 8,000.

The capital Hillsborough is also the island's only town as the other settlements are small villages. A fun fact is that on Carriacou can be found over 100 rum shops.

Carriacou Island is most popular for its diving locations and beaches, the largest of which are Anse La Roche and Paradise Beach. Carriacou is ranked the Caribbean's healthiest, safest and friendliest island. It is also known as the "Isle of Reefs" being surrounded by some of the region's most unspoiled coral reefs.

Diving locations include 33 sites - all suitable for various levels of scuba divers. Depths range between 12-30 m (40-100 ft). Visibility is good all year round, with superb opportunities for underwater photography. Carriacou also has two wreck diving sites - the tugboats Boris and Westsider- both 30 m (98 ft) long, sunk as artificial wrecks. Wildlife includes common reef fish, barracudas, nurse sharks, stingrays, spotted eagle rays, green turtles, hawksbill. Migrating humpback whales pass Carriacou during late spring.

Carriacou Island cruise terminal

Cruise ships to Carriacou Island visit Hillsborough - port town on the western coast. As this is a tender port, cruise ships anchor in Hillsborough Bay and their passengers are transported to the pier via the ship's tender boats.
