Review of Star Clipper

Star Clipper is a 4-masted barquentine (in comparison, the Royal Clipper tall sailing ship is 5-masted). The sailing yacht was built in 1992 by Scheepswerven van Langerbrugge (in Ghent Belgium) and is currently operated by the Monaco-headquartered Swedish company "Star Clippers Ltd".

History - construction and ownership

The 2,298-ton, 170-passenger cruise ship Star Clipper is a true sail ship reflecting its proud heritage in the gleaming brightwork and polished brass. The minute you step aboard this unique boat, you'll discover the new age of sail. Traditions of the past and comforts of the present day are happily living together here. Sister ship Star Flyer and Star Clipper are both 360-feet-long and though perfect modern ships, they were created for passengers who love luxury and traditions of the legendary era sailing ships.

Star Clipper Wiki

The Star Clipper cruise ship is a 4-masted barquentine operated by the Swedish cruise company Star Clippers. The vessel is the first newly-built clipper ship since 1912, classed 100A1 by Lloyds.

This is a tall sailing cruise ship with 63-meter tall masts. Its sailing rig has 16 sails. The vessel relies on the wind 80% of the time. A marine diesel engine works as the main propulsion engine in poor wind conditions and when the clipper ship is not under sail.

Water sports facilities on board include scuba and snorkel equipment, a water ski boat, eight Zodiacs. Sports directors provide dive instruction for a fee. There are no shows, except local folklore performances from ashore. Dinner and “captain’s story-time” are the main events in the evening. During the day, guests can learn about sails and their repair.
