Conflans-Sainte-Honorine is a Seine River cruise port in a commune located in Yvelines (north-central France). The town is located 24 km (15 mi) from the center of Paris (in the capital city's northwestern suburbs).

Originally, Conflans-Sainte-Honorine was named simply "Conflans" for its location at the Oise River and Seine River confluence. In the 13th century, the suffix "Sainte Honorine" was added - honoring Saint Honorina - as her relics had been stored in the town since 876 AD.

due to its strategic geographic position, Conflans-Sainte-Honorine is one of France's major cargo ports on the country's inland waterways. Seine River's right bank is lined with barges, most of which are luxury houseboats.

Conflans-Sainte-Honorine cruise terminal

Conflans-Sainte-Honorine is served by a samename station on the Paris Transilien rail network (St Lazare rail line). The town is also served by the Conflans – Fin d'Oise rail station (an interchange station on RER line A (one of the capital city's 5 rapid transit lines) on the Paris – St Lazare (Transilien / suburban) rail line.

Exploring Conflans-Sainte-Honorine

Easy independently for local sightseeing. Conflans is a good stop for a riverside stroll, a compact old-town walk and the inland-waterways museum. The waterfront is mostly level, while the historic quarter and Parc du Prieuré require an uphill climb. Auvers-sur-Oise is a separate excursion destination requiring transport.

Getting Ashore and Around

This is a river-cruise stop where passengers normally step ashore by gangway rather than tender. Confirm your ship’s exact mooring and pedestrian exit before leaving: the waterfront extends beyond the historic center, so walking time depends on the berth.

Place Fouillère, beside the Seine, is a useful starting point for independent sightseeing. From here, pedestrian signs lead through the old streets toward the Musée de la Batellerie. Expect slopes and some steps when exploring the upper town; passengers who prefer level walking can stay on the riverside.

No transport is needed for the central sights once you reach Place Fouillère. For an outing beyond Conflans, arrange transport and the return journey in advance rather than relying on taxis waiting beside the ship.

Best Ways to Spend Your Time

Old Town, River Views and Parc du Prieuré

Allow 2–3 hours for Place Fouillère, the exterior of Tour Montjoie, Saint-Maclou church and Parc du Prieuré. The park and château terrace provide views over the Seine, with space for a quieter break between sights. This is practical independently, but the climb from the waterfront makes it a moderate walk. Church access depends on opening arrangements and services.

Musée de la Batellerie et des Voies Navigables

The museum inside Château du Prieuré is the most distinctive indoor visit in town. Boat models, navigation equipment and displays about canals and locks help explain the river traffic seen from your ship. Allow about 1–1.5 hours, or combine it with the old-town walk.

Check opening times before climbing up: individual visits are normally unavailable on Mondays, and some opening days include a midday closure. The museum’s visitor circuit is accessible, but the uphill approach from the river needs separate consideration.

Waterfront, Historic Boats and the River Confluence

For a gentler outing, follow the quays past moored barges and the historic vessels at the Halte Patrimoine. The Je Sers chapel boat is another worthwhile stop when visitor access is available. Treat boats as exterior sights unless boarding is explicitly permitted.

With more time, continue west toward Le Pointil, where the Oise meets the Seine and the boatmen’s memorial stands. Allow roughly 2–3 hours for an unhurried waterfront outing from the central quays, adjusting the turnaround point to your berth and available time. This is a riverside sightseeing walk rather than a beach or swimming stop.

Auvers-sur-Oise and Van Gogh

Independent with arranged transport; an organized excursion is convenient. Auvers-sur-Oise offers the church depicted by Van Gogh, the cemetery where Vincent and Theo are buried, and the Auberge Ravoux, his final lodging. Choose a village walk and one indoor attraction rather than trying to visit every museum.

Reserve about half a day, including transport, and confirm journey times for your departure point. Walking to the church and cemetery involves uphill sections. Check attraction opening dates and book any essential admission before setting out. A ship excursion, when offered, simplifies transfers and timing.

Self-Guided Walking Tour

Historic Center and Prieuré Loop — Moderate

Start and finish: Place Fouillère. Approximate distance: 2 km (1.2 mi), excluding the walk from your ship. Pure walking time: 35–45 minutes. Recommended total: 1.5–2 hours, or 2.5–3 hours with the museum. Expect uphill streets, uneven paving and steps on some approaches.

  1. Place Fouillère: Begin at the riverside square and orient yourself before heading into the old town.
  2. Tour Montjoie: Follow the marked heritage route uphill to view the medieval tower from outside.
  3. Saint-Maclou church: Continue through the historic streets; enter only if open to visitors.
  4. Parc du Prieuré: Explore the gardens and pause at the river viewpoints.
  5. Château du Prieuré: Visit the inland-waterways museum if opening times fit your call, or enjoy the château exterior and terrace.
  6. Halte Patrimoine: Descend to the quays to see the historic boats, then follow the waterfront back to Place Fouillère.

Return from Place Fouillère along the agreed pedestrian route to your mooring. For an easier alternative, omit the upper town and make an out-and-back stroll along the central waterfront, turning around whenever you have used half your available walking time.

Planning Your Return

  • Check the ship’s all-aboard time and whether it will remain at the same mooring throughout your outing.
  • For local sightseeing, aim to reach the ship at least 30 minutes before all-aboard; allow more if your berth is farther from the center.
  • For Auvers-sur-Oise or another road excursion, leave at least an hour of contingency beyond the expected return journey.
  • Paris requires a separate transport plan. Conflans-Sainte-Honorine station serves Transilien Line J toward Paris Saint-Lazare; Conflans–Fin d’Oise serves RER A. Include the walk to the appropriate station, waiting time and onward travel before deciding whether a Paris outing fits.
  • Wear shoes suitable for slopes and uneven streets. Check museum hours first if an indoor visit is central to your plan.
