Getting from the Cruise Port

Easy independently in town. Farsund’s harbourfront, town square and Varbak lookout can all be explored on foot. The beaches and sights on the Lista peninsula are easier with a prearranged ride.

Ships can berth at the deep-water pier or anchor and tender passengers ashore. The deep-water pier is about 1.8 km (1.1 mi) from the centre, so allow roughly 25 minutes on foot from the pier area if pedestrian access is available. Check the ship’s instructions for the passenger exit or tender landing and any shuttle arrangements for your call.

Self-Guided Walk from the Harbour to Varbak

Moderate. From Torvet, allow about 1.5–2 km (0.9–1.2 mi) round trip, with 30–45 minutes of walking and 1–2 hours including stops. The harbourfront is mostly level, and the climb to Varbak takes about 15 minutes from the centre. Add the walk between your landing point and Torvet in both directions.

1. Torvet. Start at the town square by the harbour.
2. Inner harbour. Follow the waterfront past the guest marina for views of the boats and hillside houses.
3. Husan. Head uphill into town to see the historic building from outside.
4. Varbak lookout. Continue towards Markeveien and climb to the viewpoint over the harbour and surrounding waters.
5. Torvet. Retrace your steps downhill and return to your ship, shuttle stop or tender landing from the square.

For an easier outing, stay around Torvet and the inner harbour. Allow 45–90 minutes for a stroll and a café stop, plus the transfer or walk from the ship.

Beach and Countryside Options

Lomsesanden and Einarsneset

Allow 2–3 hours for a beach visit and a short coastal walk. Lomsesanden is a sheltered sandy bay with shallow water, a picnic area and toilets. In cool weather, follow part of the path towards Einarsneset for small coves and coastal views. Paths can be sandy and uneven. Arrange a taxi or other private transport and confirm your pickup before setting out.

Lista Lighthouse and Nordberg Fort

Allow 3–4 hours for both stops by prebooked car or organized excursion. At Lista Lighthouse, spend time on the exposed coast or look for birds around the headland. Nordberg Fort adds a former coastal defence site with views across the peninsula. Check opening times if you want to visit the lighthouse tower or museum interiors.

Local bus 230 links Farsund with Vanse and Borhaug. For a lighthouse visit by bus, check the exact stop, the onward walk and the return timetable for your date. An organized excursion is the simpler option if you want to combine the lighthouse and fort in one outing.

Returning to the Ship

Work back from the ship’s all-aboard time or last tender. If travelling outside town, aim to reach the pier or tender landing at least an hour before the applicable cutoff, with extra time if you are relying on a bus or if tender queues are building.
