Seabourn Quest Review

Review of Seabourn Quest

The 2011-built Seabourn Quest cruise ship is the third of Seabourn's older vessels, with sisterships Seabourn Odyssey/Mitsui Ocean Fuji and Seabourn Sojourn/Mitsui Ocean Sakura. Each of the three vessels features one of the largest spas ever installed on a luxury cruise ship.

The vessel (IMO number 9483126) is currently Bahamas-flagged (MMSI 311038900) and registered in Nassau.

History - construction and ownership

Seabourn Cruises is a top-luxury (all-inclusive) cruise line founded in 1986 and headquartered in Seattle WA. Seabourn operates worldwide itineraries ranging from 7-day Caribbean cruises to 100+ day Around the World voyages. Since 1998, Seabourn has been fully owned by Carnival Corporation - the world's largest passenger shipping company. Seabourn is a signature travel brand and a major player in the premium cruise market, competing directly with Silversea and RSSC-Regent Seven Seas.

Seabourn Quest cruise ship

The 450-passenger Seabourn Quest debuted in June 2011 and completed Seabourn Cruise Line's USD 750 million investment in three new Odyssey-class “yachts”—if a 32,000-ton ship can be called a yacht. Highlights of all three vessels include a large swimming pool surrounded by wooden decking, a central hub called Seabourn Square (serving as a combination library, reception area, Internet café;, and patisserie), and elegant interior decor with extensive use of cream, white, and neutral tones combined with varied textures (from leather to gauze) to create a refined boutique hotel atmosphere.

Service aboard Seabourn Quest is consistently ranked among the best-personalized and attentive. The ship features an impressive crew-to-passenger ratio of nearly 1:1. Quest's staff is driven by a sincere desire to please guests, delivering warm and attentive service. Tipping is not expected. Some of the special features of this unique cruise ship include:

  • Complimentary welcome champagne and an in-suite bar stocked with guests’ preferred beverages.
  • Large walk-in closets and spacious bathrooms (separate shower and bathtub).
  • Four dining venues, gourmet open-seating dining, and 24-hour complimentary room service.
  • Six lounges and bars plus a casino, with fine wines served at lunch and dinner and open bars throughout the ship.
  • An innovative concierge lounge featuring a coffee bar and computer center.
  • A marina with complimentary watersports and an in-sea pool, plus a fully equipped fitness center.
  • A two-deck spa, the largest offered in ultra-luxury cruising.
  • Cell phone and Wi-Fi access throughout the ship.

Decks and Cabins

Seabourn Quest staterooms (225 total) are available in 15 cabin categories. The largest are the GRWG-Grand Wintergarden Suites (1180 ft2 / 110 m2 including the 220 ft2 / 20 m2 terrace). These are actually two connecting cabins (WG-Wintergarden Suite plus V4-Veranda Suite) with connecting balconies.

All staterooms are suite-category accommodations and feature luxury hotel-style amenities such as separate sitting and sleeping areas, a walk-in closet, electronic safe box, smart HDTV (with free on-demand movies), iPod docks, minibar, and refrigerator.

Most staterooms are Veranda Suites (sized 300 ft2 / 28 m2 plus 65 ft2 / 6 m2 balconies). Penthouse Suites are more spacious (435 ft2 / 40 m2 with a 100 ft2 / 9 m2 terrace) and feature bedrooms separated from lounge areas (with dining tables and comfortable armchairs) and powder rooms. Grand Suites are two-bedroom accommodations with a glass-walled solarium (whirlpool bathtub and lounge bed).

The vessel has 11 decks, of which 10 are passenger-accessible and 7 with cabins.

Through the company's loyalty program "Seabourn Club," Silver Level and above passengers receive free Internet (limited and unlimited packages), free phone calls (20–30–40 minutes worldwide), a complimentary spa massage, a Day Pass for the Spa Serene Area, free laundry (1 bag for every 7 days on the ship), discounted pricing on onboard alcohol purchases (premium wines and spirits), future cruise booking discounts, luggage shipping service discounts, and access to special offers and exclusive onboard events.

Shipboard dining options - Food and Drinks

Dining aboard Seabourn Quest is a central part of the onboard experience, with several distinctive restaurants including The Colonnade (buffet-style by day and alfresco à la carte by night), the elegant main dining venue, and Restaurant 2—a gourmet venue offering tasting menus. Seabourn Quest offers six dining venues (all included in the fare) and four open-bar lounges. Guests dine when, where, and with whom they wish, enjoying options ranging from elegant to casual, indoors or outdoors, or even in-suite.

Below is the complete list of Seabourn Quest restaurants and food bars.

  • The Restaurant (main dining room with open-seating breakfast, lunch, and dinner; the dining amenities are top luxury; the Restaurant’s dress code is “elegant casual” with optional “formal” attire on special nights).
  • Restaurant 2 (reservation-only; offers an avant-garde dining experience featuring a rich selection of fine wines and regionally themed menus).
  • Patio Grill (serves the pool area with grilled specialties, salads, and side dishes; fresh pizza by the slice is offered throughout the afternoon).
  • The Colonnade (Lido Buffet open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner; chefs cook in an open kitchen allowing guests to watch the food being prepared; dinner menus follow a different theme each evening; the restaurant includes an aft terrace and outdoor seating area).
  • The Grill by Thomas Keller (menu and ambiance inspired by the classic American chophouse; a collaboration between designer Adam D. Tihany and 3-star Michelin chef Thomas Keller).

In October 2023, the company announced that in January 2024 Seabourn Quest would debut the fleet's first Solis Restaurant. The new venue offers freshly prepared contemporary Mediterranean cuisine inspired by the destinations visited by Seabourn, including the Italian and French Rivieras (Central Mediterranean) as well as Turkey and the Greek islands (Aegean). The Solis Restaurant menu was developed by Anton Egger (Seabourn's Master Chef) and Franck Salein (Seabourn's Senior Corporate Executive Chef). The venue features limited seating, a chic atmosphere, and a curated selection of premium wines and signature cocktails.

In Q2 2024, Solis was scheduled to be introduced on three additional Seabourn ships (Encore, Ovation, and Sojourn).

Shipboard entertainment options - Fun and Sport

Seabourn Quest offers a relaxed atmosphere with a wide variety of activities. Guests can indulge in spa treatments, enjoy the complimentary Massage Moment on deck, work out with a personal trainer, or participate in Pilates classes. Educational port lectures, library time, poolside relaxation, and food and wine demonstrations are also popular activities. Many sailings feature Seabourn’s signature Caviar in the Surf beach barbecue or Marina Days, when guests can kayak or sail directly from the ship.

Seabourn Quest cruise ship

Before retiring, many guests enjoy a nightcap at Sky Bar.

Itineraries

Seabourn Quest’s itinerary program includes luxury South American voyages to Antarctica with departures from Argentina and Chile. In Europe, the ship operates Mediterranean itineraries departing from Civitavecchia-Rome, Barcelona, and Venice, as well as voyages to the Norwegian Fjords from Stockholm and Copenhagen. Transatlantic repositioning crossings are offered seasonally in spring and fall.

Due to the Coronavirus crisis, Seabourn Quest was paused through May 2022, with operations restarting in the Mediterranean from Venice.

In 2025, Seabourn Quest made her first Alaska deployment (May through September) based on 7-day itineraries between Vancouver BC Canada and Juneau AK. The 14-day back-to-back voyages were roundtrips from Vancouver. All Alaska cruises included scenic cruising in Hubbard Glacier, the Tracy Arm/Endicott Arm fjords, Misty Fjords (Rudyerd Bay), and Cormorant Island (Alert Bay). Shore excursions included kayaking, hiking (Rainbow Falls), and Zodiac boating through Tracy Arm (Sawyer Glacier) or Endicott Arm (Dawes Glacier).

Seabourn Quest Wiki

The vessel (Mariotti yard/hull number 64) has a volume of 32,447 GT-tons, DWT (deadweight tonnage) of 3,666 tons, and a maximum draught of 6.4 m. The powerplant is based on Wartsila marine diesel engines (model 12V32) with a combined output of 15 MW. The registered shipowner and manager is SEABOURN CRUISE LINE LTD, while the ISM Manager is HOLLAND AMERICA LINE NV.

Seabourn Quest's sisterships are Odyssey/now Mitsui Ocean Fuji and Sojourn/Mitsui Ocean Sakura.

Seabourn Quest was christened during a sunset ceremony in Barcelona Spain on June 20, 2011, by her godmother Blythe Katherine Danner (born 1943, American actress), best known for her role as Greg Focker's mother-in-law in the films "Meet the Parents", "Meet the Fockers", and "Meet the Children". Following the naming ceremony, the ship departed on her maiden voyage - a 14-day Mediterranean cruise from Barcelona to Piraeus/Athens.

Although Seabourn ships are among the smallest compared to the main brands in the luxury cruising market, the addition of these vessels increased the line's passenger capacity by 300%.

The name "Seabourn Quest" was chosen following a "best name contest." 120 participants proposed the name, which was ultimately selected by Seabourn.

Seabourn Quest refurbishments review

Drydock 2026

The ship's last drydock refurbishment was in 2026 (May) conducted at Fincantieri's Genoa yard.

The major renovation project targeted all suites, lounges, entertainment venues, and crew areas.

Among the most notable changes, The Club (disco nightclub) was redesigned to provide a more intimate, speakeasy-inspired atmosphere. Along with the revised layout, the bar facilities were upgraded, and new lighting arrangements were installed.

All public spaces were refreshed with new carpeting, updated furnishings and new design elements. The Atrium/Lobby Hall, corridors and stairways received new flooring. The pool deck was fitted with a new sound and lighting system and refurbished teak decking.

Seabourn Square was redesigned to provide a more residential atmosphere with new furniture and bistro-style seating.

The Observation Bar was refreshed and received new carpeting and furnishings.

The wellness facilities were upgraded, including a redesigned Reception area, new gym equipment, and enhancements to the Beauty Salon (revised finishes, lighting, furnishings).

Retail shopping spaces were modernised with new displays, finishes, lighting.

Dining venues' refurbishments included: The Colonnade/Lido Buffet (new flooring, carpeting, seating, updated service) and The Restaurant/dining room (new carpets and drapery).

All staterooms were upgraded with new mattresses, while Penthouse Suites and higher-category accommodations additionally received new balcony furniture. All old mattresses were dismantled for recycling.

Throughout the ship (cabins and public spaces), new wool carpeting was installed - 20,000+ m2 (~215,000 ft2) of carpets were replaced. The old carpets were diverted from landfill and earmarked for conversion into carpet underlay for future refurbishment projects. The new cabin carpeting consists of biodegradable wool products designed to support a closed-loop lifecycle approach.

All lounge furnishings were donated to an Italian non-profit organisation for reuse within local communities.

The 2026 refurbishment also improved all crew cabins, facilities and working areas.

Drydock 2018

During the 6-day refurbishment in 2018 (April 28-May 4, completed in Genoa), the UK-based company Trimline carried out interior renovations, including new flooring, woodworking, decorations, upholstery, plumbing, tiling, and electrical upgrades in all public areas, passenger and crew cabins, and service spaces. The elevators were also upgraded.

Drydock 2016

During the drydock refurbishment in 2016, Deck 10's aft “Spa Terrace” area was remodeled into four new Penthouse Spa Suites (new cabin category PS).

Drydock 2013

In 2013, the ship underwent an extensive refit. All staterooms and public areas were renovated, and new cradles for Zodiacs (inflatable speedboats) were added. The Zodiac boats are used during Antarctic cruises for ship-to-shore transportation.

The list of deck plan changes following the ship's 2013 drydocking includes:

  • A new ballast water treatment system was installed in the engine room.
  • Two new cranes (aft on Deck 6) and four Zodiac cradles were added.
  • The ship’s Marina was refitted to accommodate the Zodiacs (inflatable boats used for sightseeing and ship-to-shore operations during Antarctica cruises).

Seabourn "Iconic Islands & Remote Horizons" World Cruise 2029

In September 2026, Seabourn opened bookings for World Cruise 2029, titled "Iconic Islands & Remote Horizons".

Seabourn Quest's 138-day itinerary covers 32000+ nautical miles (~36900 mi/~59300 km) across 5 continents, visiting 58 destinations (26 UNESCO sites) in 31 countries and territories.

The voyage, starting in Miami on January 7th, 2029, and ending in Lisbon on May 26th, spans the Americas, South Pacific, New Zealand, Australia, Southeast Asia, the Indian Ocean, Africa and Europe.

Among the destinations are Easter Island, Bora Bora, Zanzibar and Cape Town, alongside more remote calls including Nuku Hiva in the Marquesas, Praslin in the Seychelles, Antsiranana in Madagascar, Akaroa in New Zealand and Burnie in Tasmania. The relatively small size of Seabourn Quest will allow the ship to access ports that are less suitable for larger vessels.

The itinerary includes 25+ UNESCO sites, among them Easter Island, Fiordland NP, Stone Town of Zanzibar and the Sacred City of Kandy.

To allow additional time ashore, the programme includes 20 extended stays, 8 of which are overnight calls. Overnight stops are scheduled in Lima, Easter Island, Bora Bora, Bali, Singapore, Sydney, Zanzibar and Cape Town. Other extended calls include Cartagena, Auckland, Napier, Melbourne, Portland, Adelaide, Busselton, Fremantle, Colombo, Victoria, Walvis Bay and Las Palmas.
