Feodosia (Crimea Russia-Ukraine)

Feodosiya/Feodosia (port locode UAFEO) is a Black Sea port city on Crimea Peninsula, with population around 70,000. Since 2014, it has been under the Russian Federation's control as part of the Republic of Crimea. The other major Russian Crimean ports are Sevastopol, Yalta, Yevpatoria, and Kerch.

Under the name Theodosia, the town was founded 6th century BC as a Greek colony, destroyed by the Huns (4th century AD), rebuilt, and, under the name of Kaffa, was ruled by Khazaria (650-969) and the Byzantine Empire (395-1453). Kaffa was conquered by the Mongols (early-13th century) and in the late-13th century was sold to traders from the Republic of Genoa (1005-1797). They established a prosperous port, which monopolized the Black Sea's shipping trade and served as an administrative center for all Genoese colonies on the Black Sea. It also became one of Europe's biggest slave-trade markets. In the periods 1204-1261 and 1296-1307, Kaffa was ruled by the Republic of Venice (697-1797). In 1475, the town became part of the Ottoman Empire (1299-1922) and in 1783 - part of the Russian Empire (1721-1917).

Feodosiya's current economy is based on industries like shipbuilding, naval ship repairs, design, and manufacturing (hardware, torpedoes), engineering, and construction (machinery, Instruments).
