Hai Phong Port serves the city of Haiphong - Vietnam's 3rd largest (after Can Tho, and Da Nang) with population over 2 million. Hai Phong is the Northern Vietnam's largest and the country's 3rd largest seaport - after Hanoi and Saigon.
Hai Phong Port system is under planning to handle cargo ships up to 40,000 DWT (deadweight tonnage). The new port will be named Lach Huyen. The construction entails creating an artificial island and a large bridge linking it to the mainland. The construction also includes building a new bulk terminal and 3 container ship terminals.
