Playa Herradura (translated Herradura Beach) is a port town located on Costa Rica's Pacific Ocean coast. here is located the famous Los Suenos Resort and Marina. Los Suenos is the country's only full-service, top-luxury (5-star) yacht marina. Herradura is also known as the country's "fishing capital", having the biggest fleet of sport fishing boats in Costa Rica.
The name Herradura (translated from Spanish as "horseshoe") refers to the shape of the bay of the particular beach. Playa Herradura offers different types (from budget to premium) of hotels, restaurants and camping sites. Jaco Beach is adjacent to Playa Herradura.
Initially a sleepy small village, today the region enjoys numerous property developments and large numbers of tourists (mainly from North-America. The prestigious Marriott Los Suenos Hotel at Playa Herradura has its own golf course and marina.
Playa Herradura is a great vacation travel destination with activities like golfing and sport fishing. The close proximity to Costa Rica's capital city San Jose (approx 1 hr drive from Juan Santamaria Airport) makes Herradura a nice breakaway location for people limited on time. The waters here are more tranquil than at the surrounding beaches, which makes the place very safe for swimming.
The nearby Carara National Park (Tarcoles River) is popular for its crocodiles, mangroves (shrubs and small trees), exotic birds (such as toucans, herons, macaws) and walking trails for wildlife viewing.
