Huizen is a North Sea/IJsselmeer/IJssel River cruise port and town in The Netherlands' North Holland province (Amsterdam Metro region), with population around 40,000. The town is approx 30 km / 19 mi to the west-northwest of Amsterdam (the country's capital city) via motorway A1 that links with Germany's Autobahn BAB 30.
With a similar name is North Holland's city Enkhuizen. It is also on IJsselmeer, approx 75 km / 45 mi to the north via Road N307 connecting highway A6/Rijksweg 6 with Road N302 (near Lelystad/Flevoland) and Road N50/Rijksweg 50 (Kampen/Overijssel).
Port Huizen (locode NLHUI) is on IJsselmeer (Lake IJssel) in the Waddenzee/Wadden Sea - a shallow inland waterway between continental Europe and the Frisian Islands. Lake IJssel is an inland waterway/bay bordering three Dutch provinces - Flevoland (south and east), North Holland (west) and Friesland (north-northeast). The lake has total area ~1100 km2 (420 mi2) and average depth 4,5 m (15 ft). Into IJsselmeer flows the IJssel River.
