Imperia (port locode ITIMP) is a port city in Italy's Liguria region and the capital of the Imperia Province. The city was created in 1923 by combining Porto Maurizio and Oneglia, and nine surrounding villages.
Imperia has an active maritime infrastructure with two port areas: Porto Maurizio (primarily a marina/tourist port with 1245 berths for boats and yachts) and Oneglia, which has 13 commercial berths and can accommodate vessels with LOA lengths of 35-150 m (115-492 ft). Small and luxury ships usually dock at Oneglia.
Large cruise ships offer visiting Imperia as a shore excursion destination rather than as a call port. The likely cruise gateways (ports) are Savona or Genoa, depending on itinerary. From Savona, Imperia is ~70–80 km (40-50 mi) west, so it can be offered as a full-day excursion. Savona is a genuine major cruise port with the Palacrociere terminal.
Imperia was included as an actual cruise port of call in the Silver Shadow ship's 2028 schedule, with two departure dates (May 16th and October 7th), visited as part of two Nice-to-Athens Mediterranean itineraries.
Imperia's economy is based primarily on seaside tourism, the food industry (including olive oil and pasta production), specialized agriculture (particularly olive groves and greenhouse-grown flowers), as well as trade and port activities.
