Kampong Chhnang is a Tonle Sap River cruise port and the capital city of Kampong Chhnang province (central Cambodia). The city is connected to Cambodia's capital Phnom Penh via railway and highway.
Phnom Kong Rei is a landmark that lies north of the city across Tonle Sap River. This is an mountain range with highest elevation point 310 m (1020 ft). Its silhouette seen from afar resembles a sleeping woman. Phnom Kong Rei is one of the major tourist attarctions in the province, especially during Khmer New Year (April 13-16). The mountain attracts spiritual people coming here to pray and meditate. At the mountain's base there is a hut for lay followers and resident Buddhist monks to do meditation and prayer. Leading from the hut to the mountain's top is a path called.
Region's economy is dominated by agriculture (rice production). Most of the locals live on floating fishing villages during the monsoon season.
