RV Lan Diep Review
Review of RV Lan Diep
RV Lan Diep ship cruises on Mekong River and along Mekong Delta (in Vietnam and Cambodia). Ship's itineraries are 15-day and on the route between homeports Ho Chi Minh City / Saigon (Vietnam) and Siem Reap (Cambodia). Both (northbound and southbound) itineraries feature Mekong Delta and Tonle Sap Lake cruising.
The riverboat Landiep was built in Vietnam and features colonial-style interior and the traditional for Mekong cruiser ship design using as main construction material Asian tropical fine timbers. Boat's steel hull is also embedded in wood. Like the sisterships (Indochine 1 and Indochine 2), Landiep offers premium comfort and ultimate safety. Due to boat's low draft (only 1,8 m / 6 ft), the vessel is perfectly suited for Mekong cruises. Its interior is and looks very tasteful and cosy.
As being one of the best deluxe cruisers on the Mekong River, RV Lan Diep is the flagship of Compagnie Fluviale du Mekong’s (CFM). The riverboat is chartered by the German travel company Phoenix Reisen (established 1973). Phoenix Reisen is a travel agency with ocean ship chartering business (since 1988) and river cruise shipping operations (since 1993).
Lan Diep ship has a total of 22 staterooms, of which 10 are located on Upper Deck (2) and 12 on Main Deck (1). All staterooms are outside (categories A, B, C), comfortable, stylishly furnished and spacious (sized 175 ft2 / 16 m2). All cabins have direct access to the Promenade (outdoor covered walking area/terrace) that serves as a common balcony.
All staterooms offer as standard amenities individually-controlled air-conditioning, large wardrobe, double bed (convertible to twins, with premium mattresses), under bed storage (for suitcases), bedside cabinets, wall-mounted reading lamps, hairdryer, electronic safe box (in the closet), no TV, mirrored dressing table with chair, daily replenished bottled water, en-suite bathroom (WC, shower, washbasin / single-sink vanity, razor plug, make-up mirror, towels, bathrobes, slippers), turndown service.
The ship has a comfortable Bar Lounge (Saloon/Library), Reception-Cruise Director and Gift Shop (in the Lobby), Dining Room Restaurant, Sun Deck (sunbathing area with loungers and canopied seating), Promenade (outdoor walking areas on Decks 1-2), wireless (Wi-Fi) Internet (in all public areas). In the Restaurant (aft on Main Deck) all meals are waiter-served. It offers buffet-style breakfast, multi-course lunches and dinners with traditional Cambodian and Vietnamese cuisine specialities. Dishes are prepared with fresh locally-sourced ingredients. Traditional European dishes are also available. Fresh-baked bread and snacks are available upon request. Free beverages (bottled mineral water, tea, coffee) and snacks are available 24-hours.
In-cabin massage service is also offered. Lan Diep boat has a modern water filtration and chlorination system and 24-hour security service. Premium wines and liquors are available at extra cost (both in the Lounge and the Restaurant).
Large flat HDTV and DVD player are available at the Bar Lounge (Sun Deck) showing movies in the evenings. The Lounge also serves as Library offering popular board games, classic literature and Asia travel-themed books. The Lounge also serves the company's enrichment program with daily-scheduled events like language and cooking classes, educational talks and lectures, folklore performances (songs and dances) by local artists boarding the ship. Onboard languages are English, German and French. Currency is USD (MasterCard and Visa are accepted).
On each voyage are held the complimentary events Welcome Cocktail, Farewell Reception, Captain's Farewell Dinner.
