RV Lan Diep Review
Review of RV Lan Diep
RV Lan Diep cruises on the Mekong River and throughout the Mekong Delta (Vietnam and Cambodia). Her itineraries are 15 days long, operating between the homeports of Ho Chi Minh City / Saigon (Vietnam) and Siem Reap (Cambodia). Both northbound and southbound voyages include cruising in the Mekong Delta and on Tonle Sap Lake.
The riverboat Lan Diep was built in Vietnam and features a colonial-style interior and a traditional Mekong cruiser ship design, using fine Asian tropical hardwoods as the primary construction material. The steel hull is clad in wood. Like her sisterships (Indochine 1 and Indochine 2), Lan Diep offers premium comfort and high safety standards. With a shallow draft of only 1.8 m (6 ft), she is ideally suited for Mekong River cruising. Her interior is tastefully designed and offers a warm, cozy ambiance.
As one of the deluxe cruisers on the Mekong River, RV Lan Diep is the flagship of Compagnie Fluviale du Mekong (CFM). The riverboat is chartered by the German travel company Phoenix Reisen (established in 1973). Phoenix Reisen operates ocean ship charters (since 1988) and river cruises (since 1993).

Cabins
Lan Diep has a total of 22 staterooms, including 10 on the Upper Deck (Deck 2) and 12 on the Main Deck (Deck 1). All staterooms are outside-facing (categories A, B, C), comfortably appointed, stylishly furnished, and spacious (approximately 175 ft² / 16 m²). Each cabin has direct access to the Promenade (a covered outdoor walkway/terrace), which serves as a shared balcony.
All staterooms include the following standard amenities: individually controlled air-conditioning, large wardrobe, double bed (convertible to twin beds, fitted with premium mattresses), under-bed storage (for suitcases), bedside cabinets, wall-mounted reading lamps, hairdryer, electronic safe (in the closet), no TV, mirrored dressing table with chair, daily replenished bottled water, en-suite bathroom (WC, shower, single-sink vanity, razor outlet, magnifying makeup mirror, towels, bathrobes, slippers), and nightly turndown service.
Shipboard facilities
The ship features a comfortable Bar Lounge (Saloon/Library), Reception and Cruise Director’s desk, Gift Shop (in the Lobby), Dining Room Restaurant, Sun Deck (sunbathing area with loungers and shaded seating), Promenade (outdoor walking areas on Decks 1 and 2), and wireless (Wi-Fi) Internet access in all public areas. In the Restaurant (aft on the Main Deck), all meals are waiter-served. The cuisine includes buffet-style breakfast and multi-course lunches and dinners featuring traditional Cambodian and Vietnamese specialties. Dishes are prepared with fresh, locally sourced ingredients. European dishes are also available. Freshly baked bread and snacks are available upon request. Complimentary beverages (bottled mineral water, tea, coffee) and snacks are available 24 hours a day.

In-cabin massage service is available. Lan Diep is equipped with a modern water filtration and chlorination system and provides 24-hour security service. Premium wines and spirits are available at additional cost in both the Lounge and the Restaurant.

A large flat-screen HDTV and DVD player are available in the Bar Lounge (Sun Deck) for evening movie screenings. The Lounge also serves as a Library, offering board games, classic literature, and Asia-themed travel books. It is the venue for the company’s enrichment program, featuring daily activities such as language and cooking classes, educational lectures, and folklore performances (music and dance) by local artists who board the ship. Onboard languages are English, German, and French. The onboard currency is USD (MasterCard and Visa are accepted).

Each voyage includes complimentary events such as the Welcome Cocktail, Farewell Reception, and Captain’s Farewell Dinner. The cruise line’s shore excursion program is tailored to port stay durations and includes qualified local tour guides. Tours are optional and can be booked onboard or in advance (online). Payment for tours is made onboard. Some excursions are included in the cruise fare.
