MS Calypso Review

Review of MS Calypso

MS Calypso cruise ship is owned and operated by Feenstra Rijn Lijn (translated Feenstra Rhine Line). The riverboat is currently operated under charter by Phoenix Reisen. This ship cruises on Rhine and Moselle rivers, also itineraries on the Dutch Waterways (in Holland). Departures are offered from homeport Düsseldorf Germany. Calypso ship cruise fares are inclusive of all transfers (to/from the boat) by air, coach or train (Eurostar). Eurostar is a high-speed railway via Channel Tunnel (La Manche) connecting the UK with France. The train service starts in London and links Amsterdam-Avignon-Brussels-Lille-Lyon-Marseille-Paris-Rotterdam.

Cabins

All cabins are outside, offering centrally regulated air conditioning and heating. The accommodations feature private bathroom facilities, including a toilet and shower, separate sink, as well as a television, telephone, hairdryer, mini safe and storage space.

MS Calypso cabins are located on the Upper and on the Main Deck. One of the 3-berth cabins on the Upper Deck (#219) is slightly larger than the other and has 2 low beds and 1 half-high bed. In the other 3-berth cabin (#220) there are 3 low beds. This kind of stateroom is the same size as the 2-berth. The 3-berth cabins can be booked for 2 passengers on request. The double cabins feature twin beds, easily converted into comfortable sofas during the day. The B cabins on the Main Deck have a fixed bed and a folding bed. All 2-berth cabins are almost the same size - between 11-12m2 (118-129 ft2). The 2-berth cabins on the Upper deck feature larger windows than the ones on the Main deck. The cabin windows on the Main deck are placed higher. There are also single cabins, which are almost the same size.

From the Upper Deck passengers can go to Sun Deck (outdoor area) and Lower Deck's Restaurant connected via stairlift and stairs. Main Deck cabins can only be reached via stairs.

Shipboard facilities

Ample chairs and deck chairs are lined up on the partially covered Sun Deck. There is also fitness equipment. The public areas aboard MS Calypso are on the Upper Deck and feature panoramic views. There is a large lounge with a dance floor. A bar is also available, separate from the lounge. All public areas are air-conditioned. In the central hall on the ship's promenade deck are the souvenir shop and the reception.

The onboard luxury extends to the boat's stylish Panorama restaurant with breathtaking views, located on the Main Deck. Breakfast and lunch are buffet-style, with a wide choice of Continental and English items to choose from. The 4-course evening meal includes starter, soup, choice of meat or fish main course (vegetarian option is available on request) and a dessert, all expertly crafted. On one evening passengers enjoy a very special 5-course Captain’s dinner which is one of the many highlights of Calypso's cruising vacation experience. In the morning and in the afternoon tea and coffee are served, while a snack is offered in the evening.

Feenstra cruise prices include full service, even a cup of tea or coffee offered at regular intervals. Drinks at the bar and shore excursions are not included. Feenstra Rhine Line doesn't operate any hidden surcharges for harbour fees.
