MS Calypso Review
Review of MS Calypso
MS Calypso is owned and operated by Feenstra Rijn Lijn (Feenstra Rhine Line) and currently chartered by Phoenix Reisen. The riverboat sails on the Rhine and Moselle rivers, as well as through the Dutch Waterways. Cruises depart from the homeport of Düsseldorf, Germany.
Calypso cruise fares include all transfers to and from the vessel by air, coach, or train (Eurostar). The Eurostar is a high-speed train service operating via the Channel Tunnel (La Manche), connecting the UK with France, and linking major cities such as London, Amsterdam, Avignon, Brussels, Lille, Lyon, Marseille, Paris, and Rotterdam.

Cabins
All cabins are outside and feature centrally regulated air conditioning and heating. Each cabin includes a private bathroom (with toilet, shower, and separate sink), television, telephone, hairdryer, mini safe, and storage space.
MS Calypso cabins are located on the Upper and Main decks. One of the 3-berth cabins on the Upper Deck (#219) is slightly larger and has two low beds and one half-high bed, while the other 3-berth cabin (#220) has three low beds. These 3-berth cabins are the same size as the 2-berth cabins and can be booked for two passengers upon request. The double cabins feature twin beds that can be easily converted into comfortable sofas during the day. The B cabins on the Main Deck include one fixed bed and one folding bed. All 2-berth cabins are similar in size, measuring between 11–12 m² (118–129 ft²). The 2-berth cabins on the Upper Deck have larger windows, while the Main Deck cabin windows are positioned higher. Single cabins are nearly the same size as the doubles.
From the Upper Deck, passengers can access the Sun Deck (outdoor area) and the Restaurant on the Lower Deck via a stairlift or stairs. Main Deck cabins are accessible by stairs only.
Shipboard facilities
The partially covered Sun Deck offers ample seating with deck chairs and fitness equipment. Public areas are located on the Upper Deck and feature panoramic views, including a spacious lounge with a dance floor and a separate bar. All public areas are air-conditioned. In the central hall on the ship’s promenade deck, guests will find the souvenir shop and the reception.

The elegant Panorama Restaurant, located on the Main Deck, offers beautiful river views. Breakfast and lunch are buffet-style, with a wide variety of continental and English dishes. The four-course dinner includes a starter, soup, a choice of meat or fish for the main course (vegetarian options available on request), and a dessert — all freshly prepared. A highlight of the cruise is the special five-course Captain’s Dinner, served once per voyage. Tea and coffee are served in the morning and afternoon, with evening snacks also provided.
Feenstra cruise fares include full service, with tea and coffee offered regularly. Drinks at the bar and shore excursions are not included. Feenstra Rhine Line does not charge additional harbor fees or hidden surcharges.
