MS Prinzessin Katharina Review
Review of MS Prinzessin Katharina
MS Prinzessin Katharina is a large riverboat sailing Danube River cruise itineraries with departures from Passau (Germany), Budapest (Hungary), and Vienna (Austria). Previously, the vessel sailed as “Princess of Prussia” for the now-defunct Peter Deilmann Cruises. The current shipowner is Riseday Holding, a Malta-based independent cruise shipping company that also owns Prinzessin Isabella and Prinzessin Sisi. All three luxury riverboats are currently chartered by Phoenix Reisen, a Bonn-based German cruise travel agency.

In 2023, the vessel (ENI number 9948003) changed her flag state and port of registry from Malta (MMSI 215437000) to Slovakia (MMSI 267132302).
Cabins
Due to her older design (launched in 1990), MS Prinzessin Katharina has no step-out balcony cabins. However, all upper-deck staterooms are fitted with French balconies. The decor throughout the accommodations is comfortable and stylish.
Shipboard facilities
The ship offers all-inclusive dining. Mornings begin with a rich breakfast buffet, and lunch and dinner feature multiple menu options focused on traditional European cuisine. In the afternoon, passengers may enjoy tea or coffee, and a midnight snack is served late in the evening. All guests dine in the Panorama Restaurant. Two onboard bars offer beverages included in the cruise fare—soft drinks, beer, house wine (by the glass), as well as tea, coffee, and juices.
Entertainment includes live music and dance performances, often featuring local folklore. Board and card games are also available. During the day, guests may browse the boutique or visit the barber shop (friseur). The vessel offers an Internet Café and shipwide Wi-Fi. Bicycles can be rented onboard for individual shore excursions.
Located at the front of the Sun Deck (Deck 3), the ship’s Navigation Bridge (Wheelhouse) is unusually large for a European riverboat. It spans the vessel’s full width (from port to starboard) and is non-telescopic (cannot be lowered). The outdoor Sun Deck features a shaded seating area with two retractable awnings covering deckchairs and tables, plus an open sunbathing area with loungers.
