Between 1634-2022, the play has been performed 42 times, making it the world's longest-running show production. Due to the COVID crisis, the performance scheduled for 2020 was rescheduled to 2022.

The settlement was founded in the 11th century and developed around a 9th-century monastery. The town's current-day economy is based on tourism and traditional woodcarving. The artworks displayed in the numerous woodcarver shops include household items, toys, portraits, statues, religious scenes, items themed on fairy tales.
