Osijek is a Drava River (Danube River) cruise port and Croatia's 4th largest city with population around 110,000. The city is also the largest in Slavonia (eastern Croatian region). It is located approx 25 km (16 ml) upstream of Drava's confluence with Danube.
Osijek is still a popular domestic tourist destination due to its Baroque style, vast open spaces and recreational opportunities. The major sights in the city include its main square, Trg Ante Starcevica, the promenade along Drava ("promenada"), Tvrda the 18th century Baroque citadel, and the suspension pedestrian bridge towards Baranja.
Numerous events take place in Osijek throughout the year. The major of them are May's Croatian Tambura Music Festival, attended by tambura orchestras from all over the country and Osijek Summer Nights (held during June, July and August), as well as a series of cultural and entertainment programs, accompanied by excellent fairs.
