Santa Rosalía is a Sea of Cortes cruise port and town in Mexico's Baja California Sur state, with population around 15,000. The port is located on Baja California Peninsula (Gulf of California's coast). The town is served by regularly-scheduled ferries (connecting to Guaymas, Sonora Mexico) and Palo Verde Airport (with daily flights linking to Guaymas and Hermosillo).

The settlement was founded as "company town" in 1884 by Compagnie du Boleo (French mining company). The town is adjacent to the El Boleo (copper-cobalt-zinc-manganese ore deposit) and named after St Rosalia (aka La Santuzza / 1130-1166) - the patron saint of Palermo (Sicily Island, Italy). Boleo Copper Mine was closed in 1954. Unlike other industrial sites, the mining facilities in downtown were never dismantled (although not accessible to the public). Compagnie du Boleo's office building was converted into a museum. Town's scenery is marked by rusted locomotives and various mining machinery scattered all around.

After mine's closure in 1954, to prevent town's economic downfall, the state-owned company CMSRSA reopened the works using the old mining equipment. As the government-funded mining was impractical and non-profitable, El Boleo was finally closed in the 1980s. The El Boleo mine is currently under development by a Korean consortium (Minera y Metalurgica del Boleo) led by Korea Resources Corporation. Underground mining operations started in 2012.

In January 2019, the UK-based company CMV (Cruise and Maritime Voyages) announced its plans to homeport in Puerto Penasco the 550-passenger liner Astoria. Shipping operations were scheduled to start on December 7 (2019) with voyages to Baja California and Mexican Riviera ports. CMV's 12-day itinerary "Treasures of the Seas of Cortez" visits as call ports Topolobampo, Mazatlan, Cabo San Lucas, La Paz, Loreto, Santa Rosalia, Guaymas (San Carlos). CMV Astoria cruise prices started from USD 1600 per person. With Astoria's Puerto Penasco homeporting, CMV targets almost exclusively the Arizona-US market due to homeport's proximity to Phoenix, Tucson and Yuma.
