Sundsvall is a port city in Sweden's Vasternorrland County, with an urban population around 50,000. Port Sundsvall is located at the Gulf of Bothnia (Baltic Sea), approx 395 km (245 mi) north of Stockholm (Sweden's capital city).
The town was first mentioned in the early-17th-century (1621) and 4 times was burned down and rebuilt. In early-20th-century, the town developed as one of Sweden's largest forestry industry centers. Current-day Sundsvall's economy is heavily dependent on the pulp and paper industry, also on aluminum production, banking, and insurance, telecommunications and computing (data-processing).
