Bonn is a Rhine River cruise port. The Federal City of Bonn is located on the river's banks, in the southernmost part of Rhine-Ruhr region and northwest of Siebengebirge in the Germany's North Rhine-Westphalia state. The city serves alongside with Berlin as seat of the country's government, being the second official seat and residence of the germany's President, Chancellor and Bundesrat. Bonn is the Germany's biggest metropolitan area with over 11 million inhabitants.
Bonn was founded by the Romans in the first century BC, making it one of the country's oldest cities. In the period 1597-1794, the city was the capital of Electorate of Cologne and the residence of Cologne's archbishops and prince-electors. In the period 1949-1990, Bonn was West Germany's de facto capital and the seat of her government. In recognition of this former capital status, Bonn still holds today the name "Bundesstadt" (Federal City).
