MS Katharina von Bora Review

Review of MS Katharina von Bora

MS Katharina von Bora cruise ship was built in 2000 in Tangermünde, Germany. The riverboat is owned by the Portuguese company aaa (a family-owned financial holding) and operated under charter by its subsidiary Nicko Tours, a Stuttgart-based cruisetour company. MS Katharina von Bora cruises on the Elbe River with year-round departures from Berlin (Potsdam) and Prague. The itineraries include sailing through the Elbe-Havel Canal (between Potsdam and Magdeburg).

Cabins

MS Katharina von Bora offers 42 cabins accommodating up to 80 passengers. All standard cabins are outside, equal in size (12 m² / 130 ft²), and feature lower beds (two twins or one double), bedside tables, wardrobe, writing desk with chair, small table with chair, and an en-suite bathroom (shower, toilet, washbasin). Additional amenities include a hairdryer, flat-screen TV (satellite reception), electronic safe (in closet), phone (intercom/onboard use only), and centrally controlled air conditioning.

Main Deck cabins have two lower beds (two twins convertible to a double or one twin plus one sofabed), providing extra space during the day. Midship are two Deluxe cabins (13 m² / 140 ft² each) with a fixed double bed (non-convertible to twins) and two non-opening windows.

All Upper Deck cabins are French Balcony staterooms with floor-to-ceiling glass doors opening to a railing (false balcony). They feature either two lower beds (one twin and one sofabed) or one double bed (1.5 x 2 m) with two separate mattresses.

Aft on both the Main and Upper Decks are four Single cabins (two on each deck). Each measures 9 m² / 100 ft² and includes a sofabed, non-opening window (Main Deck) or French Balcony (Upper Deck). Single cabins can be booked without single supplement fees.

Shipboard amenities

MS Katharina von Bora has a fore-located Dining Room Restaurant with floor-to-ceiling windows, single-seating capacity, and open seating arrangement. The dining menu includes both traditional dishes (inspired by the visited regions) and international specialties. Fine wines and gourmet delicacies are available, and each voyage features a Gala Dinner with an exquisite menu and an ice parade.

On the Upper Deck, the Lobby area includes the Reception Desk (24-hour guest services), Tour Office (excursions information and booking), and Gift Shop. A single staircase connects all decks. The ship does not have a wellness complex (Fitness, Spa, or Hair Salon), Library, lift (passenger elevator), or swimming pool/Jacuzzi. The wheelhouse, railings, and awnings are retractable to allow passage under low bridges.

The Sun Deck features retractable awnings shading seating areas with tables and chairs and full bar service. The aft section includes a deck games area (Giant Chess Set, Putting Green/Mini-Golf), while the midship area has sunloungers and deckchairs for relaxation.

Entertainment onboard includes daily live music, cooking demonstrations, quiz games, bingo, crew shows, themed dance nights, enrichment lectures, and multimedia presentations related to itinerary destinations and excursions.

The cruise company offers optional shore excursions (not included in cruise fares) at each visited port. Land tours include guided sightseeing, city walks, cycling excursions, and coach trips to nearby attractions. Complimentary portable audio headsets are provided on all guided tours.

MS Katharina von Bora cruise fares include all onboard meals (breakfast buffet, waiter-served lunch and dinner, afternoon coffee with cake, and midnight snacks), Welcome Cocktail, Welcome Dinner, Gala Dinner, onboard entertainment, ship tour, and port taxes.
