MS Douro Cruiser Review
Review of MS Douro Cruiser
The 2005-built MS Douro Cruiser cruise ship has one sistership, the Douro Queen (identical design), with a passenger capacity of 126 and a crew of 30. Douro River itineraries operate roundtrip from the homeport of Oporto, visiting ports in Portugal and Spain, including Vega de Terron–Salamanca.
The riverboat is owned by Mystic Cruises and operated through its Portuguese subsidiary Douro Azul. The vessel is exclusively chartered by Mystic’s German brand and fully owned subsidiary, Nicko Cruises.

The ship sails under the Portuguese flag (MMSI 263751370) and is registered in Lisbon. She was built by WestSEA Shipyard in Viana do Castelo, Portugal.
Upper Deck cabins feature private step-out balconies, while Main Deck cabins have large picture windows. Onboard facilities include the Panorama Restaurant (serving international and traditional Portuguese cuisine), Panorama Bar Lounge, a lift (connecting the Lower and Upper decks), and a stairlift (connecting the Upper and Sun decks).
The primary onboard language is German, and no dedicated program is provided for English-speaking guests.
MS Douro Cruiser offers 65 staterooms—Upper Deck cabins with step-out balconies and Main Deck cabins with large picture windows. All accommodations are exterior-facing and similarly sized (~15 m² / 160 ft²), featuring modern hotel-style amenities such as individually controlled air conditioning, en-suite bathrooms (shower, WC, single-sink vanity), electronic safe (in the closet), intercom phone, mirrored dressing table with chair, LCD TV (satellite reception), hairdryer, and two single beds convertible to a double.
The Sun Deck features a swimming pool, two Jacuzzis, and a spacious sunbathing area furnished with padded loungers, low tables, and shaded seating with deckchairs and four-seat tables under retractable awnings. At the bow is the Navigation Bridge (Wheelhouse). All structures on the sundeck are collapsible and lowered when passing under low bridges.

The Panorama Restaurant accommodates all passengers in a single sitting. On embarkation day, guests may reserve a table for the entire voyage. The restaurant serves buffet-style breakfasts and lunches, and four-course, waiter-served dinners. The Panorama Lounge hosts Nicko Cruises’ onboard enrichment program, featuring quizzes, bingo, lectures, live music, themed dance evenings, card and board games. Traditional Portuguese entertainment is also offered, with local artists coming aboard to perform music and dance shows.
