On April 15, 2025, the Spanish shipyard-owner Navantia SA and RCG-Royal Caribbean Group formalized a Framework Agreement at RCG's headquarters in Miami (Florida USA). This accord strengthens their longstanding collaboration and outlines future endeavors in drydock ship repairs and refurbishments.
The partnership between Navantia and RCG originated in 2011 with the refurbishment of the Splendour of the Seas (now Marella Discovery).
Since then, Navantia's facility in Cádiz has serviced 25+ vessels from Royal Caribbean's fleet, including from the subsidiaries Celebrity Cruises and Azamara. This ongoing relationship underscores Navantia's prominence in the cruise ship repair and revitalization sector.
As part of this renewed agreement, the Allure of the Seas is currently undergoing a comprehensive 42-day refurbishment at Navantia's Cádiz facility. This project, with an investment exceeding EUR 91.5 million, encompasses over 14,000 tasks, including machinery overhauls, cabin renovations, and enhancements to public areas such as bars, terraces, pools, and the ship's 10-story slide.
The Allure of the Seas had previously been serviced at the same shipyard in 2015 and 2020, reflecting the consistent collaboration between the two entities. This refurbishment is part of Royal Caribbean's Royal Amplified program, initiated in 2018, aimed at upgrading ten of its ships to enhance guest experiences.
Upon completion, the Allure of the Seas is scheduled to operate 7-night Mediterranean itineraries from Barcelona, visiting ports such as Marseille, La Spezia, Civitavecchia, and Palma de Mallorca. Subsequently, in November 2025, the vessel will reposition to Fort Lauderdale FL to commence Caribbean cruises.
