Riviera Travel UK/fleet has announced that MS George Eliot (owned by the Swiss company Scylla Cruises) will be dedicated exclusively to solo travellers beginning in June 2027, operating continual departures on the Danube, Rhine, and Moselle rivers.
The decision reflects Riviera’s recognition of increasing demand for solo cruises. The company currently offers over twenty solo-departure voyages annually, most during the spring and fall, with all guests accommodated in private cabins and no single supplement charged.
For the 2027 season, George Eliot will sail four 7-night itineraries: "The Blue Danube River Cruise for Solo Travellers" (roundtrip from Budapest), "Rhine Cruise to Switzerland for Solo Travellers" (Cologne to Basel), "Rhine and Moselle River Cruise for Solo Travelers" (roundtrip from Cologne), and "Rhine, Strasbourg and Heidelberg for Solo Travellers" (roundtrip from Cologne).
Each guest’s accommodation will be a private double cabin, 83% of which have a French balcony. Communal spaces such as a lounge, bar, and sundeck will be provided, and the vessel will offer a welcome dinner, a cocktail reception, and daily entertainment.
The ship’s capacity for solo travellers will be 68 guests. A dedicated cruise director and a hotel manager will oversee operations, and local guides will lead daily excursions.
Riviera has opened reservations for the 2027 solo-only voyages aboard George Eliot.
