Princess Cruises has appointed Camila and Matthew McConaughey as godparents to its upcoming vessel Star Princess, continuing a lineage of distinguished patronage once held by figures such as Princess Diana, Audrey Hepburn and Sophia Loren.
The couple will preside over the ship’s naming ceremony on November 6th at Port Everglades (Fort Lauderdale, Florida).
The 177,800-ton ship is designed to carry 4,300 guests, and is a sister to Sun Princess. Her features include 30 dining and bar venues, 2157 staterooms. Both vessels share the exclusive “Sanctuary Collection,” comprising a private restaurant, adults-only pool deck, and premium amenities.
Camila and Matthew, who jointly founded the Pantalones Tequila (100% Blue Weber Agave, super premium ORGANIC Tequila), have had their spirits integrated into the Princess fleet’s offerings through the Love Line Premium Liquors collection, including the popular 24K Gold Margarita.
Princess Cruises’ leadership noted that the McConaugheys’ values of warmth, creativity and commitment to giving back aligned well with the brand, and that having them as godparents would enrich the vessel’s story from her outset.
Star Princess is scheduled to embark on her maiden voyage on October 4th, from Barcelona, before crossing the Atlantic to begin the inaugural Caribbean season from Fort Lauderdale on November 7th. The new liner is also scheduled for a Panama Canal transit before the inaugural Alaskan deployment in 2026.
