A crew member has died after falling from the cruise vessel Hebridean Princess while the ship was navigating the Sound of Mull near Oban UK (Scotland) on Tuesday evening, June 16th.
According to operator Hebridean Island Cruises, the incident occurred shortly after 08:00 p.m., prompting an immediate response on board. The Oban Coastguard Rescue Team was tasked to the scene, while HM Coastguard and Police Scotland were informed.
The company stated that it was cooperating with the relevant authorities as investigations continue. It also confirmed that the crew member’s next of kin had been notified and conveyed its condolences to the individual’s family, friends, and colleagues. The operator indicated that no further information would be released while official inquiries remain ongoing.
At the time of the incident, 38 people were on board the vessel.
Police Scotland reported that officers received a call at ~08:30 p.m. regarding the body of a man in the water near Corran Esplanade in Oban. Following initial investigations, the death was not considered suspicious. A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal in due course.
The circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation by the relevant authorities.
