The newbuild luxury cruise liner Scenic Eclipse set sail on its inaugural cruise, a year late due to shipyard strikes. Leaving Reykjavik for a 13-day voyage to Quebec City on St Lawrence River in Canada, the 228-guest Polar Class 6 vessel has been designed to be the most innovative to sail the Antarctic and Arctic, though it will also sail the Caribbean and Mediterranean.

Scenic Eclipse is the first ocean cruise ship for Australian-based Scenic Luxury Cruises & Tours, offering luxury river cruises in Europe, Egypt, South East Asia, and Russia.

Classed by Scenic as the first "Discovery Yacht" in the world, Scenic Eclipse was scheduled to launch in August 2018 but strikes at the Croatian shipbuilding yard led to a dramatic intervention by the cruise line’s founder and chairman.
