Lunenburg is a port town in Southern Nova Scotia (Canada) with population around 2,500. The 1753-founded town was named after the Duke of Braunschweig-Luneburg Georg August (1683-1760) known as King George II of Great Britain (reign 1727-1760). Port Lunenburg is a natural harbour located at Mahone Bay's western side, and approx 100 km (62 mi) southwest of Nova Scotia's capital city Halifax.

Lunenburg (Nova Scotia Canada) cruise port

As cruise port, Lunenburg NS is usually visited by small-sized ships, tall-sailing ships (clippers) and superyachts on North Atlantic repositioning crossings with itineraries that also visit ports in Iceland, Greenland, Canada (Newfoundland-Labrador, Quebec), and the USA.

The town's economy is based on commercial fishing (including offshore aquaculture), also housing Canada's largest fish-processing plant (High Liner Foods Inc). In 1995, Lunenburg NS was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its original British colonial layout and wooden vernacular architecture (building constructed using local materials and without professional architects' supervision). The historic downtown is designated a National Historic Site of Canada. Lunenburg was featured in the movies Dolores Claiborne (1995), The Covenant (2006), The Disappeared (2012), Haven (TV series/2010-2015), Locke & Key (2020 TV series), Hanamizuki (2010).

The Old Town Lunenburg is originally planned with narrow streets laid out in a rectangular grid pattern. The Old Town houses the old harbour and ~40 buildings here are listed on Canada's Register of Historic Places, including Knaut-Rhuland House (1793, museum), and two wooden churches - Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church (1890) and St John's Anglican Church (1763). Old Town's "Smith & Rhuland Shipyard" is a recreational boat marina. In 2005 the province bought from Clearwater Foods (High Liner Foods brand's owner) a total of 17 buildings at the waterfront to ensure their preservation. Also at the waterfront is the ABCO Industries Shipyard (1947-founded) where are currently constructed aluminum vessels. Lunenburg Shipyard (owned and operated by Lunenburg Industrial Foundry & Engineering) has a drydock, manufacturing faciities, foundry, carpentry shop.
