Pulau Bintan (aka Negeri Segantang Lada) is an Indonesian island, part of Riau Islands province. Its capital city is Tanjung Pinang (south coast). The city is an autonomous area within the Island. Bintan has land area of approx 1170 km2 (453 ml2) and population around 340,000.

The island flourished due to its strategic location along the trade route between India and China. The closest large city is Singapore, which is around 50-min ferry ride via motorized catamarans from Bintan's resort area (island's northwest) across Singapore Strait. Riau islands are opposite to the resort and across South China Sea.

Bintan is popular among tourists for its beaches lined up with hotels and resorts. Bintan Resorts area covers over 300 hectares (740 acres). Bintan Island is promoted as Indonesia's second best vacation travel destination after Bali.

Island's economy is based mainly on tourism due to Bintan's close proximity to Singapore. Bintan Resort area was leased by Batam Industrial Park (Singapore) for development into a Singaporean resort complex. For the project were allocated around 23000 hectares (57000 acres) of land, further divided to 20–30 smaller projects with land areas around 3000 hectares (7400 acres). These projects included building premium hotels, resorts and spa-sports facilities (including two 18-hole professional golf courses). Island's beach resorts are designed exclusively for wealthy tourists and with an exclusive access from Singapore (bypassing Tanjung Pinang). Eco-tourism (for low-income foreign families) is also developed with village handicrafts and shops, museums, artist villages.

Apart from tourism industry, other major indistries on Pulau Bintan are pig rearing and seafood processing (for export to Singapore), mining (Bauxite, kaolin, granite, tin), petroleum (plastics manufacturing).

Planned for construction on the island are 10 golf courses, 20 hotels, 10 condo-type real estates, 3 village clusters, township, marine and eco-tourism attractions. In 2016, the island was visited by over 600,000 international tourists, most of whom were from Singapore, Japan and South Korea. Around 2/3 of the tourists travel to Bintan by fast ferries from Singapore. The island is also served by Raja Haji Fisabilillah Airport (approx 3o-min car ride from Bintan Resort) and Tanjung Pinang Airport (90-min from the resort area).

  • This is an alternative to weekend getaways on which (especially during summer) hotels are most expensive,
  • The special event held at the Ferry Terminal was attended by Indonesian government representatives, GHK partners, media, managers of Genting Cruise Lines and Dream Cruises.

Dream Cruises offers Bintan Resort port stay of 12 hours (between 8 am and 8 pm). During that time cruise tourists can enjoy white-sand beaches, seaside villages and several resorts offering modern watersport activities. Pulau Bintan shore excursions are themed on local food sampling, shopping, spa (traditional massages), wakeboarding, seakayaking, diving and snorkelling, off-road ATVs, Safari Lagoi (eco-farm tour), mangrove eco-tour, world-class golfing. Tours and excursions offered by Dream Cruises as prices range between SGD 50-70 (USD 40-50) per person. Golf packages cost between SGD 150-190 (USD 110-140) per person. Transfer packages from SGD 30 (USD 20) pp include ferry service and bus transfers to and from Plaza Lagoi Bay (Bintan Resorts area).
