Saint-Florent (San Fiurenzu) is a port town on Corsica Island, part of France's Haute-Corse department. The town covers a total area of approx 18 km2 (7 mi2) and has population around 2,000.
The settlement was originally founded as fishing port, but at its harbour marina today are moored mainly tour boats and luxury yachts. Saint-Florent is a popular summer travel vacation destination for many French tourists due to its proximity to Patrimonio vineyards and Saleccia beach.
The town was created in the 15th century when Corsica was a territory controlled by the Republic of Genoa (1005-1797). In 1764, France used the port to disembark colonists and mercenaries to subject independent Corsican inhabitants.
Town's most popular attractions are the Genoese citadel (built in 1440) and Nebbio Cathedral (currently named Santa Maria Assunta church).
